102d Cavalry Regiment Association – The Essex Troop

The 102nd Cavalry Regiment Association, The Essex Troop, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the lineage, artifacts and traditions of the New Jersey Army National Guard’s oldest cavalry regiment. First organized in May 1890, in Newark, New Jersey, The Essex Troop and its lineage units have served the community, the State of New Jersey and the United States of America with “Faith with Fortitude”, as embodied in the motto of the Regiment, since it’s organization.

The Association is committed to maintaining a strong sense of history and comradeship for current and former Troopers and all military veterans by organizing social gatherings, sponsoring scholastic scholarships and supporting various veterans’ programs.

Based on Article II of the Constitution of the Essex Troop, the following Mission Statement is published to restate and reinforce our Association’s primary Intentions and purposes.

The current Mission of the 102nd Cavalry Regiment Association is as follows:

  • To preserve the rich history of the United States Cavalry and Armored forces, especially as pertains to the military units descended from the 1st Troop New Jersey Cavalry and the 102nd Cavalry Regiment, NJARNG
  • To provide programs to perpetuate the history and memory of The Essex Troop, the Cavalry and Armored forces of the New Jersey Army National Guard, and the United States Army
  • To provide assistance to disabled and/or needy veterans, members of the Essex Troop, and the Cavalry and Armored forces of the New Jersey Army National Guard and the United States Army
  • To Sponsor and participate in activities of a patriotic nature
  • To provide social and recreational activities for members of the Essex Troop
  • To provide educational scholarships for members of the Essex Troop, their children and grandchildren, and to members and their dependents of the Armed Forces of the United States, with specific emphasis on the members of the Essex Troop and all associated New Jersey Army National Guard organizations descendent from the 102nd Cavalry
  • To acquire, hold, let, transfer, mortgage and convey properties both real and personal in the best interests of the members of the Essex Troop
  • To establish, under the banner of the 102nd Cavalry Regiment Association, programs designed to preserve and present the historical lineage, honors, sacrifices, and accomplishments of the 1st Troop New Jersey Cavalry, the 102nd Cavalry Regiment, the 102nd Armored Brigade – 50th Armored Division, and all associated units, commands, and organizations as agreed upon by the Officers and Trustees of the 102nd Cavalry Regiment Association – The Essex Troop
  • To forge and actively preserve relations and partnerships with outside organizations that will assist the Association in accomplishment of its stated Mission.
